Debut of Peking Opera "Liyuan" – Your Exclusive Opera Costume & Makeup Experience
Description
Peking Opera: A Precious National Treasure of China
Peking Opera, a traditional Chinese theatrical art with over 200 years of history, is the most representative form of Chinese opera. Its performance revolves around the four core skills: singing, recitation, acting, and acrobatic combat. It features melodious singing, rhythmic spoken lines, delicate body movements, and distinctive martial arts sequences.
The stage is simple, but the actors' costumes are exquisitely crafted, adorned with intricate patterns and vibrant colors that instantly reveal a character's status. The facial makeup (脸谱) is a standout feature: red symbolizes loyalty and courage (e.g., the hero Guan Yu), white signifies treachery (e.g., the villain Cao Cao), and black represents integrity, with each color carrying deep meaning. Classic repertoires like Farewell My Concubine (《霸王别姬》), a tragic love story from ancient times, remain beloved to this day.
From face-painting to costume fitting, our professional actors from the Shanghai Peking Opera Company will provide one-on-one guidance, helping you step into the character's world! The photoshoot will take place at the newly opened Shanghai Peking Opera Heritage Center, located in the Hengfu Historic District and recognized as a Shanghai-level historical building.
With a simple stage of "one table and two chairs" and the soft sounds of traditional instruments, we’ll transform the center’s intimate theater into your personal set. When the spotlight hits, you’ll be the star!
